When a tree needs to come down, there is no room for guesswork. A cracked leader over the roofline, a rotted trunk leaning toward the driveway, a giant oak crowding the septic field — every removal is a physics problem, and the wrong call costs somebody a house. Hamlett's Tree Service has been solving those problems across Somerset and Mercer County since 1994, and Joe Hamlett is personally on-site for every single job.

We specialize in the removals other companies quietly turn down: hazardous leaners, storm-damaged giants over structures, tight-access backyards where the drop zone is measured in feet, and trees threaded between power lines and pool decks. Our crews rig each piece down piece-by-piece with proper lowering lines, so nothing hits your lawn, your shed, or your neighbor's fence. When the situation calls for it, we bring in a crane — but only when it's genuinely the safest tool, not to pad the bill.

Because we're fully licensed and insured with certified tree service specialists on every crew, homeowners across Belle Mead, Skillman, Princeton, and Hillsborough call us for the removals their insurance company or municipality will actually sign off on. And because Joe is a working owner — not an office guy — the person quoting your job is the same person supervising the cut. That accountability is why we still get referrals from customers we served twenty-five years ago.

When we leave your property, the wood is chipped and hauled (or split and stacked for firewood if you want it), the lawn is raked, and there is no evidence a full-grown tree was ever there — other than the open sky above.

Frequently Asked

Questions answered.

Do you handle trees over houses and power lines?+

Yes. Complex over-structure removals are a specialty. We rig pieces down individually and coordinate with the utility when a line drop is needed.

Are you fully insured?+

Fully licensed and insured with general liability and workers' comp. We'll email certificates directly to you or your HOA before we start.

Will my lawn get torn up?+

No. We use plywood mats in soft spots, rig instead of drop wherever needed, and rake and blow the site clean before we leave.

Do you grind the stump too?+

Yes — stump grinding is one of our four services. We usually bundle it into the removal quote so you get one price for the whole job.

How fast can you come out?+

Free estimates are usually same-week. Removals are typically scheduled within 1–2 weeks. Emergency work is 24/7.
